Industries to benefit most from the RPA

In the previous article, we have already mentioned one of Gartner’s Top Strategic Technology trends for 2022 - hyperautomation, and briefly touched upon the industries it can be used in. Today we want to dive deeper into the ways automation can facilitate business processes in different sectors of industry.

First of all, healthcare. Although you may not instantly think of the ways robotic process automation (RPA) can be used in this industry, we can assure you that it can drastically change the procedures and patient communications.

“Solutions there start from the notification send-out to the patients, reminding them about the appointments, and end with automated scheduling”

Onboarding and offboarding of employees can be also achieved with automation, where staff will no longer need to manually enter data into the databases, spending their time tending to patients’ needs instead.

RPA in logistics is usually associated with various control systems, machinery, and software, mainly in warehouses and distribution centers.

“Supply chain management is another sector there to take advantage of automation, where the latter does not only contribute to the streamlining of the main processes but also increases the general transparency of the chain”

It can be achieved through the creation of a low-code automation platform with employees being able to access all the latest data in one centralized location. Traceability of goods can greatly contribute to customer satisfaction as well, giving them confidence about the status of their order. In addition to the aforementioned, the transparency provided by low-code platforms can help detect risks and mitigate them, tackling issues as they arise to prevent their further progression.

Automation in banking and finance can also drastically facilitate the processes, eliminating mundane tasks and freeing employees from the need to manually enter the information. Moreover, customer relations are the ones to benefit from some automation either: while employees will be more focused on interpersonal communication and assistance, chatbots and voice assistants will cover the basic customers’ questions and navigate them towards the specific specialists for consultation. Besides customer and employee spheres, bots can track suspicious activity as well.

“By letting them access public databases and watchlists, whilst using artificial intelligence to analyze them, banks can identify suspicious transactions and detect dubious client history”

After that bots will only have to compile electronic case files and submit them to analysts for review. Furthermore, RPA can even be used for credit card operations to facilitate the issue of a credit card by collecting the client’s data and doing the background checks or to streamline lost or stolen card management by means of gathering data from different record systems and facilitating the case resolution.

If to talk about automation in manufacturing, the possibilities to involve RPA are endless. Automation there can vary depending on the tasks - from assembly lines and conveyors (known as fixed automation) to numerically controlled machine tools, industrial robots, and controllers (also known as programmable automation).

“The main factors why automation is so widespread in manufacturing are lower operating costs, better quality with better productivity, and the absence of a human factor”

The latter also contributes to the general safety of the manufacturing process, where bots are the ones to be involved in more dangerous activities.

So, what are the main advantages of RPA that all the sectors of industry have in common?

  • Improvement of customer relations - delegate the manual tasks to robots and let your employees be more engaged in customer service;
  • Minimal human intervention and therefore fewer possibilities of mistakes and safety risks (such as in manufacturing) - bots will never become tired and will always perform the assigned task with the same precision and the same level of quality. The safety risks will also decrease with the most potentially dangerous tasks delegated to the machines;
  • Better decision-making - a faster collection of data in addition to automated report compilation will allow management to get the latest information quickly and in time to make better managerial decisions;
